"Is this actually safe to put on my skin?" It's the first question people ask about temporary tattoos — and a fair one. Here's a straight answer about what goes into a Tattoo Factory tattoo and how to use it safely.
What our ink is made of
Every design is printed in ink that is:
- Vegan — no animal-derived ingredients and no animal testing.
- CPNP-registered — notified through the EU's Cosmetic Products Notification Portal, the same framework that governs cosmetics sold across Europe.
- Formulated for sensitive skin — designed to sit on the skin's surface, not penetrate it like permanent tattoo ink.
Because the ink stays on the surface, there are no needles and no broken skin — which removes the infection risks that come with permanent tattooing.
The one thing to avoid: "black henna"
If you take one thing from this article: steer clear of so-called "black henna" temporary tattoos. They often contain PPD, a dye that can cause severe allergic reactions and lasting skin damage.
Our products contain no PPD and are not henna. They're printed transfers in regulated cosmetic ink — a completely different, far safer category.
Patch testing — a 5-minute habit worth keeping
"Skin-safe" applies to the vast majority of people, but everyone's skin is unique. If you have known allergies or sensitive skin, do a patch test first:
- Apply a small piece (or a corner of a design) to the inner forearm.
- Leave it on and wait 24 hours.
- If there's no redness, itching or irritation, you're good to go on a larger area.
Who should take extra care
Avoid applying over broken, irritated or sunburnt skin, and skip areas with eczema or open cuts. If you're pregnant or managing a skin condition and you're unsure, check with a pharmacist or doctor first. Temporary tattoos are not designed for use around the eyes or on the lips.
Removing it is gentle too
No scrubbing, no chemicals harsher than what's in your bathroom cabinet. A little baby oil, coconut oil or a makeup wipe lifts the design away cleanly. Full instructions are in our application and aftercare guide.
The bottom line
A Tattoo Factory tattoo is a regulated cosmetic product: vegan, CPNP-registered, made for sensitive skin, needle-free, and gone in 5–8 days. Used as directed — clean skin, a quick patch test if you're sensitive — it's a low-risk way to wear ink without the commitment.
